I had originally wanted to purchase my own drone and build around that, even possibly renting the service to others. However, that would have taken a lot of time and money and I realized that I would be following the old practice of buying technology and creating a financial burden for equipment that would sit idle 98% of the time. Not a good investment. It doesn't matter if it is a large piece of heavy farm equipment or the latest drone, if it is going to sit idle most of the time, try to find someone that is already invested in this technology and eager to sell the benefits as a service. We will document in detail, the comparison of time and costs of owning, renting or hiring as a service to accomplish what needs to be done on a farm, with the best financial results.
Observations
There is a lot to the operation of a drone, just like there are techniques for effective use of a tractor.
Actions Taken
Find a hire a drone service, find and acquire winter seeds that would still have a chance to germinate, albeit they would likely have a short life as higher temperatures would be arriving soon.
Next Step
Follow the results.
